Meagan O’Shea (Toronto) takes over the theatre with WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER HERO, a provocative dance-theatre work inspired by the Occupy movement. Part performance, part communal catharsis, part experiential spectacle - HERO is a poetic metaphor for life, told through story, dance, and an immersive sonic experience. O'Shea asks "Where Truth Lies" all the while muscle-testing herself (and the audience) on the dilemma between action/discomfort and complacency/convenience.
Examining ideas from unexpected angles and engaging audiences on multiple levels, Meagan O'Shea's work is risky, humourous, and intelligent. O'Shea is a choreographer and performer, creating work using contemporary dance, storytelling, visual imagery, comedy, clown and improvisation. A Dora Award-winning artist, her work has been presented across Canada, in New York, and Scotland. She has been a guest artist at Dance Victoria, Ottawa Dance Directive, Ponderosa Tanzland Festival, The Banff Centre, Le Groupe Dance Lab, fabrik Potsdam, Earthdance and New Dance Alliance. She is an Artist in Residence at Mississauga Living Arts Centre, an Associate Artist at Theatre Direct Canada, and Founding co-Director of hub14 & Performance Works. O'Shea's large outdoor ensemble project 'dance like no one is watching: contemporary dance/public art', has been growing since 2007. With her company, Stand Up Dance, she leads dance classes, Toddler and Family Dance Parties, Flash Mobs, House Concerts and Salon Series. Please see standupdance.com for more info.
