FESTIVAL OF DANCE

In addition to the creation of original works, Suddenly Dance Theatre is known as the producer of the annual ROMP! Festival of Dance (20 Festivals), which includes ticketed shows as well as free outdoor dance showcases, including ROMP! in the PARK (in Beacon Hill Park).
Over the years, participants of ROMP! have included a vital cross section of Canadian and International artists: Gunwoo Jun, Hoyeon Kim, Min Jin Kim, Jungha Lim, Hyoseung Ye (South Korea); Lindsay Renee Derry, Linda Lehovec (USA); Lina Cruz, Dominique Porte (Montreal); DA Hoskins, Danielle Baskerville, Meagan O'Shea (Toronto); David Earle (Guelph); Helen Husak (Calgary); Aeriosa, Josh Beamish, Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg, Jennifer Mascall, Crystal Pite, Paras Terezakis, Wen Wei Wang (Vancouver); Ballet Victoria, Constance Cooke, Jung ah Chung, Monique Salez (Victoria), and many, many others!

19th ROMP! FESTIVAL

Over two consecutive weekends, the 19th ROMP! FESTIVAL OF DANCE premieres Joshua Beamish's solo collection LONE WOLF; unleashes Meagan O’Shea's Occupy-inspired WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER HERO; features an international cast of dancers and writers in our returning series PRESENT/TENSE 10 (topped off with CAKE ON THE STAGE); introduces a new, free outdoor program ROMP! IN THE PARK in Beacon Hill Park; plus we'd like you to meet our 2016 ROMP! Artist-in-Residence Hyoseung Ye from Seoul, South Korea.

20th ROMP! FESTIVAL

Suddenly Dance Theatre's 20th ROMP! FESTIVAL OF DANCE welcomes this year’s Artist-in-Residence DAVID EARLE (Guelph). A major influence in the world of dance, David will teach classes, create and share new works with the community. At the Metro Studio Theatre, our mixed international program IN THE MELTING POTfeatures the outrageous environmental work by HOYEON KIM (South Korea); with DAVID EARLE (Guelph); NAMJIN KIM (South Korea); and MAHAILA PATTERSON-O’BRIEN (Vancouver). Audiences can bring a picnic to our free outdoor program ROMP! IN THE PARK featuring BALLET VICTORIA returning to Beacon Hill Park. In a 2-week Creative Residency, Suddenly Dance Theatre’s DAVID FERGUSON will collaborate with South Korean artists HOYEON KIM, GUNWOO JUN, JUNGHA LIM with an in-studio artist talk and showing.
